A code of ethics for families in the Philippines, written by Jose Rizal. This is a PDF file that you can download. Many Filipinos are familiar with the book Noli Me Tangere, which was written by Jose Rizal in 1887. But some people might not know about another book he had also authored: The family code of the Philippines, better known as 'The 37 Articles'. This book is an ethical guide for Filipino families and covers everything from how to care for children to proper etiquette at home. After being translated into English in 1913, it eventually became part of Philippine law. Reportedly, the book was written as a series of articles for a Filipino newspaper. In the Philippines, the original version of Article 22 is read to a child as part of a ritual called "pamamanhikan" that celebrates a child's first birthday. The Family Code of the Philippines is sometimes confused with conjugal partnership of gains, which was introduced in the 1973 Constitution and which was deleted from the 1987 Constitution. However they are two different things. Article 36 of the Family Code states that "[t]he family is the foundation of society". The Family Code of the Philippines was re-enacted in 1997 by Republic Act No. 8353.Section 1. Articles 2 to 5 are related to marriage, which are stated in Article 2- the requisites of marriage, Article 3- solemnizing marriage, Article 4- contracting marriage without parental consent, and Article 5- void and voidable marriage. These articles are based on actions considered actions that can cause a person to be "in danger of death" or "injured" if performed. For example, if either party performs "any other act or performance which is considered by law civil interdiction for the benefit of persons". The article 2 includes the following conditions: Article 6 regards the vows and manner of contracting marriage. Article 7 states that a marriage is constituted from the moment of taking wedding vows. Article 8-10 goes more on about way of wedding vows and Article 11-12 talked about titles and requirements for those who shall solemnize marriage as priest or minister of any religious denomination or as Justice of the Peace. Articles 13 to 17 regard public policy, which concerns if a person who has been previously married can contract a new marriage without a court order declaring him/her free to marry again. The proper way to go about getting a marriage is stated in Article 13- this includes where to get the license, place of the ceremony, and if one has to pay for it. Articles 18-27 are all about children, who are acknowledged in law, Section 3. Articles 28 to 32 deal with duties of parents concerning their children. Article 33-34 is related to the education of children, which discusses if they cannot be taught "Christian morals" and how parents must take care so that they will follow such teachings. Article 35 speaks on how a child shall not be allowed to choose their parent. Section 5 refers to minors and what shall happen if such person should die without having reached majority. cfa1e77820
